With the draft fast approaching, I thought I'd take part in all the excitement.
Here's my first round, top ten predictions for this years NFL Draft.
1. St. Louis Rams - Sam Bradford, QB - Oklahoma
With the first selection in the draft, the Rams are sure to select Sam Bradford. He's a talented quarterback who has proved himself not only on the field but also in the combine and various draft workouts. Sure, he is a bit injury prone, but if that Rams decide to trade away this pick their organization will need more surgery than Bradford's
shoulder ever will.
2. Detroit Lions - Ndamukong Suh, DT - Nebraska

Pick number two sends Ndamukong Suh to the Detroit Lions. Suh was clearly the best defensive talent in college football last year. He has shown flashes of brilliance, and really shined in the biggest game of the year against
Texas. The only trouble here for the Lions is making sure all members of the organization learn how to correctly say his name. En-dom-ah-ken. Got it.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy, DT - Oklahoma

McCoy is just too big of a talent for the Buccaneers to pass up on. He currently sits atop a plethora of draft boards around the nation. In my opinion, Eric Berry is a better selection as he already has experience in the "Tampa 2" from playing under Monte Kiffin at Tennesee. As tempting as it is, I don't think the Bucs are willing to pass up a player of McCoy's stature. As country star Joe Nichols famously sings, "
size matters".
4. Washington Redskins - Russell Okung, OT - Oklahoma St.

Russell Okung is the clear choice for the Redskins here. Washington needs to protect the new face of its organization,
Donovan McNabb, and should try to appease him in as many ways as possible before shooting him in the foot with the future addition of T.O. (come on people, you know it's gonna happen). Okung is really their only option and in adding him to their roster they'll receive more praise than Sandra Bullock (for an outstanding performance in a slightly above average movie, or team in this case).
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Bryan Bulaga, OT - Iowa

If it weren't for last seasons' trade for Matt Cassell, Jimmy Clausen would be the obvious selection to realign with former coach
Charlie Weis; however, this is not the case and quite frankly makes this pick a little tougher. With star running backs Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles I think the Chiefs need to address the offensive line and Bulaga is the perfect choice to fill the gap, literally.
6. Seattle Seahawks - Trent Williams, OT - Oklahoma

CJ Spiller is obviously the crowd favorite here, but Pete Carroll knows what he's doing and will appease the interests of his quarterback far before looking out for the interests of the fans. Seattle quarterbacks were sacked an embarrassing 44 times last year. Trent Williams fits the offensive scheme of the Seahawks tremendously. Seattle could score a
Reggie Bush type player, yet they'll opt to take the third Oklahoma Sooner rather than later.
7. Cleveland Browns - Eric Berry, S - Tennessee

In my opinion the best player in the draft. Eric Berry will provide this organization with the kind of talent it hasn't seen since Tim Couch.. wait, what? Berry will give the Browns a player of the same caliber as division rivals Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed.
Cleveland fans, remove those bags from over your heads, you're gonna want to see this.
8. Oakland Raiders - Jimmy Clausen, QB - Notre Dame

Many draft boards like Joe Haden here, but I know Al Davis, and Al Davis is a man of speed (
see Heyward-Bey, Darrius). Joe Haden didn't impress scouts at the combine with tantalizing speed, but Clausen did... hmmm (he has a big arm). Clausen may not have quite the cannon Russell has, but he has nearly everything else. This would be a perfect situation for everyone involved, well except Jimmy.
9. Buffalo Bills - Anthony Davis, OT - Rutgers

The Bills would have loved to take Clausen here, but maybe what they have isn't so bad after all. Trent Edwards was supposed to be a stud last year (
13, really?). So if T.O. wasn't the answer, maybe an offensive tackle is? With many of the big names off the board, it can't hurt to try.
10. Jacksonville - Jason Pierre-Paul, DE - South Florida

It has been rumored around the leagues the the Jags are shopping this pick (likely to Seattle who is desperately eying Spiller) for an abundance of later round choices (probably in order to secure the selection of homer
Tim Tebow). This doesn't make much sense to me but hey, I'm no NFL exec. If it were me, I would snatch Spiller here; a homerun hitter for the backfield to compliment the rough-and-tumble style of MJD. This, however, is not likely to happen. Jacksonville has had its eye on Pierre-Paul for quite some time, and for good reason: He's a Florida native and he can do
this!
